Zhao, Xiaolan
Zhao, Xiaolan studied clinical medicine in Kunming Medical University in 1974, and later studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in University of TCM of Yunnan. After graduation, She worked as an attending physician in the Department of General Surgery and Orthopedics of the Hospital of TCM in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
In 1988, she came to Canada to study and studied for a master’s degree in pharmacology at Queen’s University and McMaster University. She opened her own TCM clinic in Toronto in 1992. She has established Xiaolan Health Center in downtown Toronto in 2005, using traditional Chinese medicine combined with Western natural therapies to help more than 20,000 of patients being health who come from Canada, American and Europe.
As the saying goes, a good TCM doctor is a general Chinese medicine hospital, and she did it! She not only uses natural medical methods to help patients relieve their pain, but also provides effective prevention and health care for people in sub-healthy conditions, achieving a true "Preventive Treatment of Disease". At the same time, her clinic has also signed contracts with large comprehensive hospitals to help patients with pre-operative preparation and postoperative recovery through TCM and natural therapies.
During her clinical work, she has been committed to participating in health-related academic activities, aiming to spread the culture of TCM so that more people around the world can enjoy the benefits of TCM.
She has given lectures on TCM treatment and preventive health care at Sunnybrook and St. Michael hospitals in Toronto many times; in 2019, she was awarded the honorary president of Baoshan Anli Hospital in Yunnan Province, and has been to Baoshan many times to guide TCM work and clinical teaching; In April 2019, she was invited by Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to participate in the "2019 Natural Medicine Application and Metabolic Regulation Symposium" and gave a special lecture on "Personalized and Precision Treatment of TCM".
She has superb medical skills and is humble and kind. Throughout her career, she has never stopped communicating and learning with her peers, in order to allow overseas TCM practitioners to better understand the profoundness of TCM. In 2013, she invited Professor Mr.Huang Huang, a famous TCM doctor in China to Toronto to teach classical prescriptions; She invited the famous Chinese folk doctor of TCM Mr. Cai Changfu to Toronto to teach classical prescriptions; in april 2017, She co-organized and invited trigger point therapy teacher of TCM acupuncturist who is from Hong Kong Mr.Peng Zengfu to Toronto to hold a teaching class; In 2017 and 2018, She invited Taiwan teacher of TCM Mr. Liangchuan Lin two times to hold the structural therapy classes in Toronto.
She has written two books introducing TCM for preventive health care and TCM treatment: "Reflections of Moon on Water ” and "Inner Beauty".
The book "Reflections of Moon on Water" tells how to use TCM to make women healthier physically and mentally. It was first published in Canada in 2005 and has been translated into 18 languages and distributed around the world. This is also the first TCM health book that has been unanimously recognized by the
Western mainstream world. This book has been recommended by the world-renowned Oscar-winning best director Anthony Minghella.
Her second book "Inner Beauty" provides a new interpretation of the definition of human body beauty from the perspective of TCM and health care, and provides people with a guide to skin care from the perspective of TCM. Real beauty comes from Have physical and mental health inside and out.
She has gained widespread social influence due to her outstanding achievements and superb medical skills. She is a director of the Canadian Natural Health Education Association and the Canadian Cancer Supporters Association; she was selected as "Toronto's most reputable TCM practitioner" by the Globe and Mail; In 2013, she won the "Canadian Outstanding Chinese Business-Social Impact Award"; She was awarded the Academic Advisor of TCM and Acupuncture at Georgian College in Ontario, Canada in 2018.
The pace of practicing of health care never stops. When she entered the age of retirement, she reached a higher level. In order to obtain better raw materials for health care products and more effectively help more people to cure a disease before its onset, she established a large organic herbal medicine planting base in Costa Rica , planting as many varieties of organic pure herbal medicine as possible.
